History of Mas Guitart

The history of Mas Guitart is lost in the mists of time, as it is the case of many “masos” around Catalonia. The first known document was written on August 30th, 1434, when the kingdom of Aragó was ruled by Alfons IV the Magnanimous. It seems that the site was known as Mas Puig of Galliners, and that his owner, Joan d’Orfany, donated the property to the Monastery of Sant Feliu de Codines, near Barcelona. Later on it was granted to the Count of Peralada.

The count empowered one Joan Andreu Malera, who restored a tithe in favour of Bernat Guitart, the new owner, and the name of Mas Puig changed to Mas Guitart. During the refurbishment works some architectural elements thought to correspond to a small building previous to fifteenth century were found next to the present entry.

Later on the building was enlarged twice, first by 1704 and also in 1807. The last works to adapt both inside and outside parts of the masia to rural tourism activities were carried out from 2003 to 2007.

The name GUITART is quite popular and rooted in the region. It comes from the Germanic “Withard” (or “Witart”), which means “hard wood” or “as hard as wood”.

WHO WE ARE

Who we are

Enjoy the cozy calm in a corner of Pla de l’Estany (Girona), where you can take a rest and visit the attractive sites of the area as well.

Come with your couple, with friends, alone, with your family,… even with the cat or the dog.

Our guests are transported in the very middle of a rural district and walk along natural paths. A few days of sunshine and cool summer nights. And, in winter, they watch fireside the starry sky through the large windows of this mas (cottage) built in the fifteenth century.

Children have a natural space safe enough to let their imagination fly.

Adults enjoy plenty of natural and cultural interest sites in the surroundings, and also an exquisite gastronomy, a rustic atmosphere and a homely and intimate background.

You are welcome to the Mas of Guitart family.
